Cyanotypes Mixed Media 2024

"My recent Mixed Media works are an exciting place where Photography, Cyanotype Printmaking and Painting intersect! Cyanotype is a 170 year old photographic printing process (that produces prints in a distinctive dark greenish-blue) and I experimented in this medium for the first time at the Lawrence Art Centre, USA, in 2022. Inspired by that, I brought the technique into my home studio to create these works.

Woven Whispers Series were conceived in 2024, in a makeshift darkroom at my home studio. I layered brushstrokes with Cyanotype chemicals on my photographs of the everyday, added drawn figures and introduced unexpected elements - Gauze & Paper Collage.

The twisting and tangling interplay of textures and layers captures the complex web of expectations, challenges, and inner turmoil often faced by women. The deep, rich blues lend an emotional weight to the scene. The gauze, often linked with healing and care, is a metaphor for the delicate, yet enduring nature of female identity. The use of collage introduces an intriguing layer - of vulnerability and introspection. This juxtaposition invites the viewer to consider themes of human connection, intimacy, and the passage of time."
